You can’t dislike a holiday that centers on eating, being grateful and that doesn’t cripple your wallet. Given the eating part, on this holiday, many of us think about wearing clothing that will make us the most comfortable as we ask for seconds (or thirds) plus a few slices of pumpkin pie to top it off. The less constricting the better, I say. A perfect solution would be a sweater dress. Sweater dresses can be comfy and cozy with tons of stretch and are a great way to look stylish.
Here are some flattering ways to wear a sweater dress for Thanksgiving:
This dress by Type Z is great because it has shape but is still relaxed in the tummy area. In addition, I created a slimming monochromatic look with the black tights and the boots by Steve Madden
and finished the look with this pair of black and gold earrings by Max & Chloe and a simple bracelet by Vince Camuto.
This dress is in a great autumnal color that is really generous in the waist area. However, because of the empire shaping you won’t look like you’re wearing a pillowcase. Even though this dress is relaxed in the waist, you should still think about your undergarments; those pesky belly rolls can show up no matter what you have on. Personally, I swear by Spanx opaque tights
not only because they slim my lumps and bumps but because they are seriously indestructible. I’ve had the exact pair above and I’m embarrassed to say that even though I’ve thrown in the dryer many times and they haven’t given out on me yet. I finished the look with a cute suede bootie from Nine West
and added a little color with the earrings.
Diagonal lines have a naturally slimming effect and this dress by Jessica Simpson is no exception. It also has a shaped waist and a forgiving a-line skirt. Because this dress is a bit loud, I went with simpler jewelry like bangles and citrine earrings and jazzed up the look even further with these Guess platforms. I decided to pair some stockings with this look. Hey, if it is good enough for Princess Kate, why can’t we all do it? I went with a sheerer chocolate stocking instead this time. I just felt the look needed something a touch more delicate.
if you’re looking for a punch of color, a dress like this by INC is perfect…and slimming. The color blocked vertical stripe and shape in the waist have a lengthening look and, therefore, slenderizing effect. While you can wear it as a dress you can also wear it as a tunic with a pair of leggings and a fun suede bootie like this one by Vince Camuto . To finish the look( because the dress has so much coverage) a cocktail ring is a great accessory choice along with a pair of chandelier earrings.
Bridgette, I love the brown empire waist sweater dress. Do you know who makes it or where I could buy one like it?
Yes, it's by Mossimo for Target. Unfortunately, by the time I was ready to post this blog it was out of stock. But maybe you can find it in store.
