I just wrapped up this afternoon’s episode of Where Are You Going In That?, exclusively on BlogTalkRadio, where we talked all about LOVE on today’s show! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner I wanted to devote an hour to this topic. So, it was Love Bridgette Raes Style. For many of you who know me, despite working in a fairly girly girl industry I’m really not a girly girl. Fortunately for my husband I’m not terribly high maintenance and don’t have much interest in some of the romantic fluff that other gals may have – but who am I to judge? So on today’s show I took a Bridgette Raes look at love today – practical – down to earth (if I do say so myself) what works and what doesn’t. From some real nuts and bolts information about the truth of online dating sites, to some actual scientific chemistry information, to the real deal about aphrodisiacs. That’s right folks when it comes to romance, that’s how I roll. Now I am happily married, so I wasn’t looking for tips on how to find love, but we covered that today for those of you still looking. We also covered how to keep your romance hot, your love alive and your relations…well….relationey.
Our first guest was Liz Maness, founder of DatingDivaSites.com, who gave us her tips and smart strategies for being successful at online. Liz is nothing short of a modern day matchmaker and has worked in the Dating and Relationship field since 2003 helping thousands of singles meet and build relationships using online dating sites. At last count she has helped over 63,000 singles (STAGGERING!!) find the person they were looking for by guiding them and putting a plan in action to help attract the love they desire. Liz also works with couples to help them get their relationship back on track! The proof may be in the pudding as she has had wonderful success in her own marriage of 26 years and says that their motto is, “Marriage is a date that will never end.”
Liz’s tips were practical and very easy to implement for the average online dater. My favorite line from the show came from Liz (said in her syrupy southern accent that I could listen to all day long) when talking about sharing too much negative private information in your dating profile, “Leave your drama for your mama!” Amen, Liz! Liz also shared the name of a particular online dating site that she likes using as well as her thoughts on the popularity of online dating itself. I’m telling you ladies, get out of the grocery store and on the internet if you’re looking for love!
Next, we welcomed Dr. Helen Fisher, PhD Biological Anthropologist, Research Professor and member of the Center for Human Evolution Studies in the Department of Anthropology, Rutgers University and Chief Scientific Advisor to the Internet dating site, Chemistry.com, a division of Match.com. She has conducted extensive research and written five books on the evolution and future of human sex, love, marriage, gender differences in the brain and how your personality type shapes who you are and who you love.
During the show, the highly regarded Dr. Fisher shared her findings on how we fall in love, why we fall in love with whom by sharing thoughts from her book Why We Love: The Nature and Chemistry of Romantic Love, and the reason men and women are attracted to each other based on her findings, and the four different love personality types, that can be found in her book Why Him? Why Her?: Finding Real Love By Understanding Your Personality Type
. My husband and I took her test, and after telling her my our results Dr. Fisher let me know if our love will last…or not. Listen in to find out!.
Lastly, we spiced up the conversation with aphrodisiac advocate Amy Reiley who is one of the foremost-educated women in food and wine. In August 2004, she became the second American to earn the title Master of Gastronomy awarded by France’s culinary temple, Le Cordon Bleu. While at Cordon Bleu, Amy rose to notoriety for her work in culinary aphrodisiacs, (she is still exhausted from the fieldwork) and in 2006, Amy released her first book, Fork Me, Spoon Me: The Sensual Cookbook
. Since then her website EatSomethingSexy.com, her free monthly food and wine newsletter dedicated to sexy foods and her latest book released just a few weeks ago – Romancing the Stove: The Unabridged Guide to Aphrodisiac Foods
have cemented her role as America’s foremost authority on the sensual side of food and drink.
I asked Amy are oysters really aphrodisiacs? What would be a great Valentine’s meal? How much does aroma play in food being an aphrodisiac, and more. Amy was an absolute delight and so incredibly knowledgable on information I thought, up until now was just folklore! Oh, and guess what scent men are most attracted to…you will be shocked!
