I didn’t post a video last week because I wanted to post two videos at once as a two-parter on necklines and necklaces, how to find your most flattering depths and shapes.
Have you ever noticed that a neckline shape or necklace length seems too low or too high? You might not be able to figure it out but something is definitely wrong. Well, your eyes aren’t fooling you, there is a good reason, it’s called Balance Points. Watch the video below to learn more about this.
Next, how do you find your most flattering neckline shapes? This video explains how to choose yours, why some work and some don’t and, if you have a short neck, how to make it look longer.
So Bridget, I understand how to find the two balance points, but I have a (possibly dumb) question: what do they exactly represent? Are they both places where a neckline or necklace should/could be, or should one be where a neckline is and the other where a necklace would be? Or maybe you should have a necklace fall at one of these points if your neckline doesn’t fall at either (as in a turtleneck or bateau neck)? Sorry to be so obtuse. I really enjoy your website and I thank you so much for all your hard work!
Hi Rose, not obtuse at all. I appreciate the question as I a sure others are wondering the same thing. Basically, balance points are two points on the body where neckline lengths and neckline depths look best. You don’t have to hit both all the time (or at all) but it is a helpful guide as to why a necklace or neckline may not look or feel right on your body. In fact, you can use a necklace to save an awkward neckline that is too high or too low. So, for example, if a neckline is too high a longer necklace that hits at the balance point will make it look less odd. Does that help?
Yes! Thank you. I learn so much from reading your blog :-).
Great! Thanks and I greatly appreciate your readership!!
Dear Bridget,
I have a neckline question for you. I have two plain tunics in my wardrobe that have notched necklines. None of the necklaces that I own look right with them. It would be great if you could write a post about which necklaces look best with notched necklines.
Thanks,
Laura
