When the weather starts getting cool I wear more neutrals. While I am a huge fan of color, I tend to do it in small doses through my accessories. It wasn’t until this Style Remix post for No nonsense that I ever gave much thought to adding color with my tights. In today’s post I am using No nonsense’s Super Opaque Tights in Shiraz (that is not only an on-trend color but also an incredibly versatile one) to show how you can use colorful tights to update some of your own fall looks. I’m showing you two ways I will be wearing mine this fall.
First, we have to talk about these tights from No nonsense because they are quite possibly the most comfortable pair of tights I have ever put on my body. Let’s face it, most women cringe at having to put on a pair of tights. However, with a 40 year commitment to providing high-quality, affordable, versatile and trend-right legwear for women who are confident in their own skin, No nonsense offers a full line of legwear including its new tights, leggings and shapewear consistent with the brand’s heritage of quality and innovation in hosiery and socks.
Speaking about No nonsense’s tights specifically, there are a few things I like about them. First, they are super soft. Plus, not only are they easy to get on, which is not always the case with tights, they feel good going on, which is also not typical. It doesn’t feel like the equivalent of putting toothpaste back in the tube when I slip my legs into them, yet, despite this roomy comfort, they sit closely and comfortably to my body while giving me a feeling of support and a streamlined look. What I also like is that these tights are super dark and opaque. When you bend or stretch the color stays consistent and rich and, as the weather continues to get cooler, I also know that my legs will stay warm. The last thing I like about these tights is the price. Most tights with such a durable and luxurious feel like these come with a much heftier price tag. Yet, these tights can be scooped up for under $10 at Nononsense.com or your local food or drug stores.
If you are looking for some inspiration on how you can wear colorful tights this fall, or how you can take your summer dresses into the cooler weather, here are two of my looks using my new favorite tights.
Taking a summer dress into fall
I wore this grey dress this summer and styled it during the warmer months with flat gold sandals or a pair of colorful wedges. By adding these No nonsense Super Opaque Tights I can now wear this dress when the weather gets cold. Tights are a great way to bring summer dresses into the fall. Before you pack your summer dresses away, look them over to see if you can wear them into the cooler months by adding a pair of tights, layering pieces and accessories. I also think women avoid colorful tights because they get stumped with the shoe question and wonder what color shoes to wear with them. While black shoes and boots are certainly a viable option with colorful tights, nothing is richer than cognac leather with deep burgundy shades, like how I styled these tights here with my boots. Lastly, with a patterned scarf that picked up all the shades of my outfit, this dress is ready for fall.
Giving an old dress a new look
Next, I used this camel sweater dress, which, admittedly, isn’t new. I wore it a lot last fall and decided to use these tights to give it a fresh look and feel. Before you get rid of a dress that you have grown tired of wearing, think about new ways you can style it, like I did here with the same burgundy tights from No nonsense. In this more casual look, I added my cognac moto boots and some simple accessories. Between the knit dress and the comfort of these tights, this is will be a staple look that will have me looking polished but feeling extremely cozy.
These tights have made me a No nonsense convert, and I’m a real stickler about the quality of my tights because I rely on them so heavily once the weather gets cold. In addition to their fabulous tights, this fall, No nonsense has designed a curated collection featuring new fabrications and patterns, including Denim and Ponte Knit Leggings, Sweater Tights and Fashion Tights in bold prints. I am sure there is something for everybody’s tastes and styles. Definitely worth a look-see for your own style remixes this upcoming season. I love No Nonsense tights. They are soft and comfortable and pretty. I love wearing colored tights like teal and hot pink and plumb with black dresses and skirts. I would like some ideas for shoes and boots though. I am 56 and work at a law firm and prefer low/no heel. Can I wear knee length dresses and long sweaters and tights and short booties or am I “too old?” Thank you! Kelly
It’s great to hear from another fan of their tights! I think you can totally do dresses tights and booties at your age! Go for it. Of course when you say you wear long sweaters with tights, you do have some bottoms on, yes? Or do you mean a sweater dress? Just checking! 🙂
Umm…if I may interrupt here – no one should do tights and a long sweater and definitely not for work.
I am such a boots and tights girl! It’s still too warm for the tights here in our corner of Georgia, but I have broken out the boots… I love the bright tights to perk up basics, and add a little zing to the day. What a great and inexpensive way to add a “trend color” that may not suit the complexion. At the end of the last school year one of my students gifted me a plaque: Life is too short to wear boring clothes. So true!
That’s such a great suggestion, Liz! I love the idea that colorful tights can add a color to an outfit that may not be suitable near the face! So true!! Oh, and funny, you’re a teacher and your name is Liz. My mom’s name is Liz and she is a teacher too!
Soooo…dress, boots and tights is an incredible look and could be a winter go-to here in NE FL but I’ve never been able to get the fabrics to not cling without a slip and, let’s face it, I’m just not going to wear a slip. I’d have the knits clinging rather than skimming. 🙁 Suggestions? And this is perfectly timely (even thought it’s over 80 today) because I. Was thinking of asking this question yesterday!
Oh, and any of those looks you are wearing, I’d toss on a plaid blazer…just sayin’
YES! I plaid blazer would be lovely, as would a denim jacket. I threw these outfits together quickly (I had less than 24 hours), but if I had a plaid jacket in my closet I would definitely throw it on! I never wear a slip and definitely don’t feel like the tights clung to either of the outfits. Perhaps it is because of where you live and the heat? Although I took these photos on a somewhat warm day and seemed just fine. If it is a problem have you considered shapewear over your tights? It may be warm but it would help the clinging. They even make skort style shapewear where it is a skirt in the front and shorts in the back so that your dress or skirt won’t get caught between the legs.
That shiraz is such a great color for fall! Do you happen to know the denier of your tights? I shop for my tights by denier: 8D-20D for sheers and 100D-200D for opaques.
Hi Justine! I wish I did and I, unfortunately, already threw the packaging away. I will say that they are super thick and opaque. Sorry I couldn’t get you the exact #.
Thanks for letting me know!
Oh! I’m a big fan of transitioning my summer dresses to fall by throwing on a denim jacket, scarf and some nice tall boots! I love me a cardigan too! I just thrifted a BRAND NEW pair of Dansko boots today (for $30!!) that I can’t wait to wear!! I don’t often wear tights… they often feel itchy-itchy on my legs, but these sound just lovely! As a Vermont girl, I certainly need them! Yay!! Stasia
A pair of black leggings can go with so many outfits! Also, fashion boots can be worn pretty much year round. Just rotate different tops and you have many new looks!
