In last week’s post where I went behind the scenes with one of my clients, Ms. Chic, you probably saw that styled a lot of her looks with burgundy shoes. It’s pretty incredible how versatile shoes in this color can be, no matter what style they are. Given their versatility, I thought it would be helpful to do a post on what to wear with burgundy shoes. Take a look at the outfits featuring this very wearable shoe color below.
What to Wear with Burgundy Shoes
Outfit #1- Burgundy Pumps
Looking for a shoe color that can add some sophisticated pop to a look? Try burgundy. Here I styled these burgundy pumps from Via Spiga with this chic dress from Reiss in taupe. The outfit is further accessorized with a clutch from BCBG, bangles from Nadri and chandelier earrings by Lauren Ralph Lauren.
Outfit #2- Burgundy Flats
You can get so much wear from a basic pair of burgundy flats, all while making your outfits more fun. Here, I styled this pair from Nordstrom with a pair of navy skinny pants from Theory and layered a chambray shirt underneath this oatmeal sweater from Loft. I finished the look with an orange crossbody bag, earrings from Modcloth and printed scarf from Lulla Collection by Bindya.
Outfit #3- Burgundy Booties
Love booties, but are sick of your black or brown pairs? Try burgundy. Believe it or not, you will probably just get just as much wear out of them. Here, I styled this pair by Rockport with a pair of bootcut jeans by Luck Brand, a basic white v-neck tee from Boden, a tobacco colored blazer from J.Crew and accessorized with a link necklace from Max & Chloe, plaid blanket scarf from La Florentina and cognac bag from Calvin Klein.
Outfit #4- Burgundy Oxfords
Burgundy oxfords can also be very versatile shoes to own. They will easily work with most pants colors, and in this outfit you can see how I styled these oxfords from Andre Assous with a pair of dark green cords. For the rest of the look, I added this slim white button down tunic, long gold pendant from Rebecca Minkoff and tan handbag from Halogen.
Outfit #5- Burgundy Shoes After Five
The last place to consider wearing burgundy shoes is with your formal and cocktail wear. Imagine how much more exciting that little black cocktail dress or long gown will be with this rich pop of color. And check out how pretty these burgundy heels from Kay Unger look styled with this teal strapless dress from J. Crew. To finish the outfit I added this floral clutch from Jessica McClintock and hammered bib necklace from Kenneth Jay Lane.
The next time you are shopping for, skip that umpteenth pair of black shoes and consider burgundy shoes instead. You’ll be amazed by how versatile they are.
You always astound me – I thought the first look was after five until I got to the last look! I have burgundy flats (Enzo Angiolini) and burgundy heels (Etienne Aigner, so maybe not typical heels but comfortable) but never thought of them as an exciting edition as much as a neutral.
I always enjoy how you present neutrals in their best possible light and let them shine and be interesting.
Thanks! Glad this helped you!! Amazing how versatile burgundy shoes are.
Good Morning Pretty Things! I giggled when I read this and said: “Everything!” Thanks Bridgette!
Basically. Haha.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! I have a pair of burgundy heels that so far I have only wore with my grey dress! This gives me so many more ideas!!! Thank you!!!!
I just need to know tho – how do you keep covered heels from getting messed up? The fabric/leather/etc always seems to tear on mine. I’ve resorted to only buying stacked heels.
Nice flash back post from a year ago. Burgundy shoes were never a color of shoes I felt I needed, then about a year ago I bought my first pair. It’s a great color of shoes to wear instead of black or navy.
Thanks for re-sharing this post from the past.
