I like versatile clothing, like pieces that can go from day to evening or can carry you through multiple seasons with just a few tweaks. This is why I wanted to do a post on chambray dresses, because quite often they can be worn throughout the year simply through addition or subtraction of clothing and accessories. Let’s take a look at some chambray dresses and how to style them from summer to fall.
Chambray Dresses You Can Wear in the Summer and the Fall
Below are three chambray dresses styled for both summer and autumn. On the left is the summer look and on the right these dresses are ready for cooler weather.
Chambray Dress Outfits #1
I like this chambray shift from J. Crew because it can easily go from being a dress in the summer to a tunic top in the fall.
For the summer look, I styled the shift with a pair of cognac wedges from Vaneli and popped the outfit with some color using a yellow bag from LAUREN Ralph Lauren and tile earrings from Stella & Dot.
For autumn, I added a pair of leggings to to the look to turn this dress into a top. I styled the outfit with a scarf from Echo Design, cognac boots from Frye and bag from Nordstrom. For extra layering, a slim turtleneck sweater can be worn underneath the dress.
Chambray Dress Outfits #2
This chambray dress from Boden may not be a style that you’ll want to wear on the hottest of summer days but it can certainly be styled for mild ones and in the spring. For autumn, this is a fantastic chambray dress to wear.
For warmer weather, I styled this dress with a pair of blush flats from Sam Edelman, ivory bag from Marc Jacobs and chunky link necklace from Bauble Bar.
On the right, I got this dress ready for fall by adding these peep toe booties from Vince Camuto. Of course, once the weather gets cooler you can cover your toes and add tights to wear this dress in even colder temperatures. I finished the outfit using this bag from Brahmin, olive bangle from Banana Republic and earrings from Kendra Scott.
Chambray Dress Outfits #3
This last chambray dress from Vince Camuto is quite lightweight, making it perfect for summer. For warm days, I styled it with versatile bronze sandals from Cole Haan and a blue bag from The Sak. For accessories I added these cluster studs from Banana Republic and this crystal stretch bracelet from Ann Taylor.
With such lightweight fabric extra layers might be needed to take this look into fall. I added this boyfriend cardigan from Banana Republic, a pair of chocolate brown tights from Spanx and a geometric patterned scarf from Nordstrom for warmth. For accessories, I used these cognac boots from Rocket Dog, satchel from Fossil, leaf drop earrings and woven bracelet from Modcloth.

I like the first dress best but I love how you made the third autumn wearable! Well done.
Thanks! Well you can definitely take what I did in the 3rd look and apply to the first one.
Absolutely – that’s part of your gift! I just never would have thought about that…and I think the game changer is the bf cardi – andy other style wouldn’t quite cut it.
Great styling ideas, Bridgette! I love utilizing season-less clothing items…keeps the wardrobe simple and versatile. Now, the daunting task of finding just the right dress!!
Hope your having fun with the kids this summer. A sister can always use a break.
As always, you’re the best!
A faithful fan,
Thanks, Pat! What about the first dress for you? And, yes, little Avery is coming this weekend. I’m hoping the weather isn’t as hot as I’m hearing it might be so we can take her rollerskating at Brooklyn Bridge Park. She never rollerskated before. I guess kids don’t really do that any longer.
