Despite the fact that nobody knows where the “no white after Labor Day rule” really came from, many women pack away their white jeans, shoes, and more, just because some holiday on the calendar says to. Seriously! Are we still doing this? Think about it, The United States is the only country to celebrate Labor Day. So if nobody nobody else outside the country has a specific date to tell them to stow their white away in storage, like we do, how do they know when to get rid of the white? When you think about it this way, it’s quite comical.
Giving up wearing white in fall is really quite instinctive. You’ll know when it’s time to pack it away. It will just become apparent that it’s time to give it all up. And, depending on where you live, this time may never come. Can you wear your white jeans in fall? You bet you can. It’s how you do it that matters.
It’s likely you won’t want to wear your white jeans in fall with summery tops and bright colors. As the weather gets milder, pairing them with darker shades and cooler weather fabrics will give your jeans more longevity while making them look more autumnal. Let’s take a look at some outfits to give you some ideas using these white jeans from J. Crew.
How to Wear White Jeans in Fall
Outfit #1
I styled these white jeans for a classic, casual early fall day using this drapey camel cardigan from Elie Tahari and black tank from Theory. Finishing the look, I added these slip on sneakers from Frye, a bucket bag from Sole Society, triangular earrings from Argento Vivo and bangle from Kate Spade.
Outfit #2
Navy and white can often be seen as a summery color combination. It can also work for fall if you style it right. Take for example, the look above. I styled the jeans with this navy tunic blouse from Lafayette 148 and, to make the outfit more autumnal, added these richer tasseled flats in burgundy from Ivanka Trump. To finish the outfit, so it can further stand up to cooler temperatures, I used a navy tote and chunky hammered gold necklace from Stephanie Kantis.
Outfit #3
Styling white jeans with a chambray shirt and a few layers can make your jeans look really autumnal. I styled this darker chambray shirt from J.Crew with the white jeans and finished the look using this chocolate brown Pashmina scarf, burgundy bag from Nordstrom, cognac flats and deco stone drop earrings from Sole Society. By pairing the jeans with richer colors, the white jeans become more like a backdrop on which the fall shades pop.

You won’t find a lot of white jeans in the stores right now, but there are still some to be had. Check out some additional styles below.
I wore white jeans yesterday in a summery way, baby blue tunic, beige sandals, two tone blue scarf. I’m looking foward to many more wears this fall.
Glad that you’ll be able to do it!
I have two pair of white jeans; one slightly cropped and one boot cut. I’ve only worn the boot cut, and only once since within minutes I stepped in dog poop. I did manage to get them pristine but the effort was such that I haven’t worn them since :/
Maybe I’ll wear them late fall, when the ground (and poop) is a little firmer.
Ha, that’s funny!
I bought a great pair of white cotton pants with a slim leg and small cuff this past spring. I just purchased a dark denim shirt…I’ve got the one outfit down! I also have a long sleeved navy tunic. I’ve just gotten two more outfits from fall and haven’t left home. Thank you for sharing these ideas.
LOVE that you were able to cobble some looks together using this post! So awesome!
