Many women consider black pants to be a wardrobe staple. While I am not one of them, I do see why they are so attractive to own. They’re easy, slimming, no-brainers that make getting dressed easy.
The downside to black pants is they can also get super boring, super fast. It’s just way too easy to fall into the black pants colored top uniform slump. Looking for fresh black pants outfits? I brought back my One Item Styled five Ways series to create five very different looks using one pair of black pants. I styled the black pants outfits using this pair from Theory. You can also shop the end of the post for additional black pants styles.
Black Pants Outfits That Will Give Your Wardrobe Staple a Fresh Look
Outfit #1
Mixing black pants with other neutrals can soften the starkness of the color while also creating a sophisticated look. Instead of looking choppy, the outfit looks harmonious and finished. I styled the Theory black pants with an ivory tank from Reiss, an olive cardigan from Halogen and a pair of nude suede pumps from Sam Edelman. I finished the look with a burgundy handbag from Sole Society and lariat necklace from Stella & Dot.
Outfit #2
Variety is what keeps black pants outfits looking fresh. In the last look, I created a softer outfit and in this one I styled one that is bolder. I used this cobalt top from L.K. Bennett with a pair of black flats from Steve Madden and finished the look with a silver pair of earrings from Robert Lee Morris and handbag from Furla.
Outfit #3
Many women are abandoning suits for suited looks, making black pants a must in the wardrobe. I styled the black pants with a grey blazer and purple top from Banana Republic and finished the look with a pair of black booties from Linea Paolo, printed scarf from Nordstrom, Marco Bicego earrings and soft lavender bag from Madewell.
Outfit #4
One of my favorite ways to style black is with cognac. It looks so rich. If you’re tired of black shoes, try cognac ones. I styled the Theory pants with this fringed sweater from J. Crew, layered over a black long sleeve t-shirt. I finished the look with a pair of cognac weatherproof Aquatalia boots, a Frye tote and hoop earrings from Karine Sultan.
Outfit #5
This last look is a sleek column style that I created by adding this novelty basic from Boss Hugo Boss. I finished the outfit with some metallic pop using these silver slides from Cole Haan, black bag from Robert Zur, Lagos Love Knot pendant and silver bracelet from Stella & Dot.

Dear Bridgette,

Well, I don’t wear black, period, so it’s not that hard. I wear navy as my staple. I don’t really have much of a need for tailored pants but if I did I would probably wear grey, olive, brown, and other neutrals. I also have a pair of pants from Theory in burgundy, but they’re not as basic as my others. For the most part, I live in jeans.
I love this series One Item Five Ways! Thanks for bringing it round again.
