I know that I am in the minority not owning a pair of black pants. I also know that a good pair of basic black pants can be a saving grace when looking to create the perfect holiday outfit. They can be dressed up, dressed down, worn to an office party, a home gathering and a nice dinner out depending on how they are styled.
With the holiday season here I am putting together five black pants outfits for the holidays using this tapered ankle length pair from Vince.
Five black pants outfits for the holidays
I created this first look for a dressy casual type of holiday event by styling the black pants with a metallic sweater set from Banana Republic (link to shell, link to cardigan.) The outfit is finished with a pair of basic black suede pumps from Sam Edelman, tassel bag from Ted Baker and statement necklace from Stella & Dot.
A client of mine recently purchased this fabulous cashmere sweater with feather and lamb’s fur cuffs from TSE. It’s stunning and perfect for the holidays. She will definitely be wearing it with her black leather pants. The outfit is finished the look above with a pair of black kitten heel booties, a woven black clutch from Welden and sterling silver caviar earrings from Lagos.
For a more cozy, casual and slightly kitsch look, I couldn’t resist styling a black pants outfit using a Christmas sweater. While I don’t go in for most Christmas sweaters, this style from Boden is particularly chic. Finishing the outfit, I added a pair of red flats from Naturalizer, colorblocked Frances Valentine bag and black stud earrings from Gorjana.
When all else fails, grab a dressy blouse. The trick is figuring out how to make these black pants outfits not look like a boring uniform. The answer is finishing these types of outfits. I styled this silky top from COS and black pants with a pair of burgundy booties from Cole Haan, calf hair circle handbag and burgundy tassel necklace from Lucky Brand.
No matter what your holiday plans will included, if styled right, your black pants will work.
