One of my favorite strategies when working with clients is to take one piece and style it multiple ways to ensure clients get the most out of their wardrobes. I also like taking this strategy a step farther, particularly with moms, is to take one base outfit and creating different looks depending on the plans for the day. It works well for moms who have busy lives and can often just manage a shoe or topper change.
Different Looks from the Same Base: Changing up an Outfit to Suit Your Style
What I rarely do is change up a singular look to style it for different style types because when it comes to clients, they often have a personal style that might be fluid but it usually grounded in some sort of consistency. Often, have I have changed things up in my one item, five different ways series, but never with the intention to create different looks to represent different style types like I am doing in this post. Take a look at the outfits below where I took a simple base of navy lightweight straight-leg cropped chinos from Everlane and a linen t-shirt from FRAME, perfect for humid weather.
Outfit #1- For the Color Lover

I styled this look for the person who isn’t afraid of color. The beauty of a neutral base, like navy and white, is that any color can be added to it. In this look, I styled this base with a yellow summer cardigan from LOFT, colorful sandals from Bueno, a turquoise pendant from Chico’s, and half-moon bag from Cuyana in bright orange.
Outfit #1- For the Boho Fan

For those who prefer more of a bohemian look, I added this floral kimono to the base look to change things up. I finished the look with beige sandals from Anthropologie, statement earrings from Canvas Jewelry, and a sky-colored crossbody from Frye.
Outfit #3- Clean and Modern

I styled this look for those who prefer a modern, clean look. I wrote a whole post on this topic, but it’s fun to see it displayed among other looks using similar pieces. I styled the pants and tee with a denim jacket, modern necklace from Cos, grey Dagne Dover crossbody and ankle strap, block heeled sandals from Soludos.
Outfit #4 – Preppy Power

I styled this look for the person who prefers to look neat and preppy. This outfit takes a casual hot weather look and makes it look a bit more elegant. I styled the base with a cotton crew neck cardigan from J. Crew, a navy handbag from Tory Burch, a triple pearl pendant, and raffia loafers from Boden.
Outfit #5- Sporty Style

Lastly, I created a sportier style by adding a cardigan from Athleta, tie-dye canvas slip-on sneakers from Madewell, and a nylon criss-cross bag from Baggallini.
It’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it that counts. Look to your finishing components to change up your outfits and express your style.
