I love getting to know the members of my Facebook Group. It’s the details that make them so memorable. It might be something like their love of color or their creative work looks. It’s one of the things I really enjoy about this group, seeing how each person expresses themselves differently and what about them makes them memorable. It really proves how reflective style can be in showing who we are.

When I think of group member Amber Fritsch, the first word that comes to mind is ‘eyes.’ Amber is an optometrist and I love the way she leans into her career by finding fun and stylish ways to showcase it. My most vivid memory is when she crafted a pair of heels with googly eyes. If only Amber lived in Brooklyn. She would definitely be my eye doctor.

Beyond her love of her job and crafting her style with eyewear elements and fun glasses, I thought it would be fun to put her in the spotlight by featuring Amber as this month’s Facebook Group Member of the Month.

Name: Amber Fritsch

Age: 38

Location: Mt. Juliet, Tennessee

Q: What do you like most about being a member of Bridgette’s Facebook Group?

A: I like that it is a positive place to share. With everything going on in the world right now, it’s also a nice place to escape for a while. Members share fashion that they’ve found, and help each other.

Q: The biggest benefits you have received from being a Group member

A: Fashion ideas, and when people post about sales haha. Maybe that’s a bad thing… 😉

Q: What would you tell women who haven’t joined the Group yet?

A: It is one of the few places you can go where everyone is supportive and helpful.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I feel like I have two different styles honestly. I split time between work (professional dress) and being a stay at home mom. At work I tend to like classic dressier pieces (I love skirts and dresses, and a vintage twist). As a stay at home mom of a 3 and 6 year old… well…. let’s just say it’s a lot more lax….

Q: How did you discover your personal style?

A: It’s a lot of trial and error. I feel like my style changes over time too. I do try to make sure I love how pieces make me feel if I’m going to keep them. I’ve also tried to learn about what looks good on my body type and take a selfie in an outfit to try to look at it objectively. I also have a few Pinterest boards that I pin to for inspiration.

Q: What advice do you have for others trying to find their own style?

A: Experimentation is ok. Trends may not be flattering on you and you don’t have to follow them. Be true to what makes you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful.

Q: What fashion issues are you currently struggling with?

A: My double life haha. Seriously it is like having a split personality!!! I love my dressy looks for work but feel like I’m really dropping the ball on the days I’m home with the kids. Graphic tees and yoga pants are comfy but don’t make me feel the most put together. I feel like I have a good grasp on my work wardrobe- but it’s the casual clothes that I’ve given up on. I go with what’s easy.

Q: What are the most versatile items you have in your closet?

A: Hmm….. White sailor pants for sure. They are flattering on me and help balance my proportions. I also have a pair of black and white gingham pumps that I love and wear often. I have a black and white polka dot top I wear a lot. I also have a navy and white striped dress that is my go-to when I can’t figure out what I want to wear. As I’m writing this I feel like maybe I need more color…

Q: If you could go back and change a way you dressed in the past, what would you change?

A: I definitely fell into the trap of buying what looked good on the model instead of thinking how it would look on me. Consequently, I have had many items over the years that have lived in my closet with the tag still on, not being worn. If I could do it over again, I’d tell myself pay more attention to flattering color and fit for me and less to what looks good on someone else.

The googly eye pumps Amber crafted.

Q: Is there a fashion purchase you made that you found more useful than you thought it would be?

A: Probably the white sailor pants. I never dreamed I’d wear white pants so much…. Oh and shapewear, if that counts.

Q: What about a fashion purchase that you thought would solve all your problems, but didn’t?

A: I’m not sure about this one. Maybe skinny jeans- they are supposed to go with everything but look terrible on me.

Q: How do you envision yourself when you look your best?

A: When I think of this I think my work attire. Fully put together- including jewelry. Skirt or dress, flattering fit. Of course, matching glasses (I always match my glasses to my clothes- that’s what happens when you’re an optometrist and have as many glasses as I do…)

Q: What are your biggest fashion goals for the year?

A: Figure out how to give up the yoga pants at home haha. Seriously I’d like to get into the habit of putting in a little more effort on my stay at home days.

Q: What is the best fashion advice you ever received?

A: When in doubt, take a selfie.

Q: The first thing you take off when you get home?

A: Jewelry

Q: Favorite color(s) to wear

A: Cobalt blue, true red, deep purple. Saturated colors. Black and white too.

Q: Favorite stores to shop?

A: White House Black Market has most of my money. 🙂
I also like Unique Vintage and Banana Republic

Q: What makes you happiest?

A: Feeling appreciated.

Q: What inspires you?

A: Creativity. I love it when I can find (or learn) a new way of doing things or looking at things.
